Weekly Security Digest — Week Ending 7 August 2026

7 August 2026

Welcome to the first issue of the CJTF Weekly Security Digest — a roundup of security developments across Nigeria compiled from public reporting, published every week.

This digest is retrospective. It records what has been reported, with attribution and links, so that communities, partners and statutory agencies work from a common picture. It does not publish forecasts, and it does not disclose operational posture.

North East — counter-terror operations

Nigerian troops destroyed an ISWAP hideout and recovered AK-47 rifles in Borno State. Pressure on ISWAP shelter and logistics in the North East continued through the week. (Daily Post)

North West — deployment to Kebbi

The Nigerian Army deployed troops to Kebbi State after Governor Nasir Idris called for decisive action against bandit groups. Kebbi sits on the North West banditry corridor, where rural and farming settlements remain the most exposed. (Daily Post)

North Central — attacks in Kogi

Armed men invaded communities in Kogi State, killing residents. Kogi borders the FCT to the south west, which makes incidents in its northern local government areas directly relevant to FCT boundary security. (Daily Trust)

South — kidnapping arrests and rescues

Police operatives rescued four kidnapping victims in Edo State (Punch). In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the arrest of four additional suspects in connection with the kidnapping of students (Daily Post).

Separately, freed abductees in Kwara and elsewhere gave accounts of captivity lasting up to six months, an indication of how long some victims are being held before release or rescue. (Tribune, Daily Trust)

National — cross-border cooperation

Nigeria and the Republic of Benin agreed to strengthen joint action against terrorism and cross-border criminality. Cross-border cooperation bears directly on the movement corridors used by armed groups in the North West and North Central. (Vanguard)
